We have a lot of catching up to do on this Blog. After several postponed trips, the Fisher Family finally made our inagural trip to Disneyland. We took advantage of the 2 for 1 deal and were able to do Magic Kingdom one day and come back a week later for California Adventures.
Audrey's first ride ever was Pinnochio. For all you parents reading this, be warned. Pinnochio is not a good first ride. As we waited in line Audrey got sneek peaks of the cute puppets dancing in one of the ride rooms, and she was excited. We boarded the cars and cruised through a few harmless rooms, but suddenly the ride took a dark turn. The tension grew as we entered the "Pleasure Island" phase of the ride and Audrey grew nervous, starting to say things like "Let's get out of here daddy." Just as I was telling her it was almost over, we came around the corner and Monstro's giant red steaming mouth and sharp teeth were there to greet us. Audrey lost it and screamed bloody murder. She was done with that ride. I never really thought much of it when I was a kid, but whoever designed apparently felt fear was a necessary component of the ride. A little much for a 4-year old who is expecting to be in the happiest place on Earth.I told Diana we had to take her on Small World next to regain her confidence. Even on that ride though she had hear ears plugged the whole time and her eyes half closed in caution. I'm sure she thought a huge whale was going to lunge out of the water and engulf us all. But it didn't so by the end of Small World she was a little less tense.
We hit up Peter Pan (Caden was a little nervous on that one), Teacups, Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, Autopia (Audrey was a great driver), Storybook land boat ride, Jungle Cruise, and Toon Town. Diana and I took turns on Space Mountain and the Bobsleds.
Meeting Mickey was a little wierd. Back in my day, the characters used to wander around the park and you were free to go up to them and take pictures. Nowadays, you have to wait in a huge line just to see them. For Mickey, we went into his toontown house and found the end of the line. It didn't look too long. But of course around every corner I found it was longer than anticipated. After waiting for one hour, we went into a room where we waited another half-hour. Then a small group of us went into a smaller room, and they gave us the prep-talk, "OK, Mickey is going to be in the next room - you can take pictures with him, etc. . . ." Then they opened an even smaller room and there he was in hiding, like Osama Bin Laden. I don't know if they though he was going to assinated or what. Audrey was a little cautious to go near him at that point.
